I've heard good things about this book and it's been on my "To Read" for quite some time, but I just never got around to it. Then, I found the audible version and decided to give that a whirl. Thank God for that. After listening to the 1st couple of chapters (which I enjoyed) I realized I could not have read this book. Not because it's not an interesting story, but rather because the author was extremely detailed in the descriptions of the scenery and the lives of the people and as of late, I don't have the attention span to read that. I tend to need more character interaction.
Having said all of that, as an audible with a narrator reading the story to me, I was able to pay attention and enjoy the plot and characters. Interestingly, Janis Ian was the narrator and although I don't enjoy her as a singer, she was a very good narrator.
